About Mysimba Weight Loss Tablets

Mysimba is a prescription-only weight loss tablet that offers a different approach than other popular oral treatments. Instead of focusing on fat storage, the medication works on your brain’s reward system to suppress your appetite and increase energy expenditure. It is most effective when taken alongside a healthy diet and regular exercise.

Originally developed to treat symptoms of addiction, Mysimba is also licensed to help adults with a high body mass index and/or weight-related health issues. Its effect on the brain helps you develop better eating and exercise habits and gain more control over food choices.

What is Mysimba?

Mysimba is a weight loss medication containing two active ingredients: naltrexone hydrochloride and bupropion hydrochloride. Unlike other weight loss pills that focus on fat storage, Mysimba tablets work by suppressing appetite and helping you rewire your eating habits.

The treatment can promote significant weight loss, with studies reporting weight reductions of up to 10% among people using the medication for 16 weeks. However, it works best as part of an integrated weight loss plan that includes a balanced diet, regular exercise, and mental well-being.

How Does MySimba Work?

Mysimba’s two active ingredients (naltrexone and bupropion) influence parts of the brain that control food intake and energy balance.

Naltrexone is an opioid antagonist that blocks central opioid receptors in the brain and significantly reduces appetite. One study found that a group of obese men treated with naltrexone reduced their food intake by 30%. Bupropion, also used in the anti-smoking medication Zyban, can also decrease the desire to eat. It achieves this by targeting parts of the brain that regulate appetite and increase energy expenditure.

Mysimba combines the effects of both active ingredients and can help users maintain a low-calorie diet. Though it can produce greater weight loss than lifestyle modifications alone, the medication is most effective when used as part of a holistic weight loss plan.

Mysimba Results: Is Mysimba Effective?

Mysimba is highly effective for weight loss, as demonstrated by studies into the appetite-suppressing effects of naltrexone and bupropion. Research has found that the combined effect of these ingredients is greater than either medication alone, making Mysimba uniquely optimised for weight loss.

One meta-analysis found that naltrexone-bupropion treatment resulted in significant weight loss and a reduction in waist circumference compared with placebo. It also reported that the combined effect of both medications produced greater weight loss than either medication alone. The treatment was also associated with decreased cardiovascular risk factors among overweight and obese patients.

Other studies suggest that Mysimba treatment may reduce binge-eating symptoms in overweight and obese people. Binge eating disorder (BED) can be a major cause of weight gain, and is thought to affect up to 15% of people with obesity. By addressing this condition, Mysimba treatment helped users significantly reduce their calorie intake and lose 5-10% of their total body weight.

Mysimba helps users lose weight by controlling appetite and cravings, while also increasing energy expenditure. However, it is most effective for weight loss when used in conjunction with a low-calorie diet and regular exercise.

How Long Does Mysimba Take to Work?

You may start to notice a difference within the first few weeks of taking Mysimba tablets, with reduced food cravings happening early on. The full weight loss benefits of Mysimba typically occur over 8 to 16 weeks once you’ve reached the recommended maintenance dose.

How Long Does Mysimba Last in the Body?

Mysimba’s active ingredients are eliminated from the body at different rates. Naltrexone typically takes 10 hours, while bupropion takes around 42 hours. The medication will continue to support your weight loss efforts throughout your treatment.

How to Take Mysimba

People prescribed Mysimba should follow their clinician's instructions for taking the medication. The treatment usually starts with one tablet each morning, preferably taken with food. Taking Mysimba with a meal can reduce your risk of gastrointestinal side effects, such as nausea and vomiting.

To make the most out of Mysimba tablets, you should take them in conjunction with a balanced diet of whole foods, healthy fats, lean proteins, fruit, and vegetables. Regular physical activity will also help.

Mysimba Dosage Information

Mysimba pills contain 7.2 mg naltrexone and 78 mg bupropion. Dosage typically starts at 1 tablet per day and gradually increases over 4 weeks. The maximum recommended Mysimba dose is four tablets per day, corresponding to 32 mg of naltrexone and 360 mg of bupropion.

It’s essential that you build up your Mysimba dosage over a few weeks. This is to reduce the risk of side effects.

How Long Does a Pack Last?

A 112-tablet pack of Mysimba will last around 28 days once you reach the full recommended dose. It may last a little longer during the first month, depending on your dosing schedule. Any changes should be discussed with a clinician.

What if I Miss a Mysimba Dose?

Be sure not to double-dose Mysimba to make up for one you’ve missed. Skipping one dose of Mysimba and continuing as usual won’t affect your long-term weight loss results. You may want to set an alarm to help you remember.

Frequently Asked Questions About Mysimba Tablets

Mysimba tablets are considered safe for the vast majority of people when prescribed by and taken under the supervision of a licensed medical professional. However, there is the risk of side effects, and the medication may not be suitable for everyone. It’s important to consult with a clinician or doctor to determine whether the treatment is right for you.

No, it’s not recommended to take Mysimba and orlistat together. Both medications can cause gastrointestinal side effects, so using them at the same time could exacerbate this. Naltrexone, one of the active ingredients in Mysimba, may sometimes cause liver issues. Taking it with other treatments that can also affect the liver, such as orlistat, may increase this risk.

Doctors will not prescribe Mysimba to people with certain medical histories. You may not be eligible for Mysimba treatment if you have:

   ●    Uncontrolled hypertension (high blood pressure)
   ●    A history of seizures
   ●    A history of disordered eating (such as bulimia or anorexia nervosa)
   ●    Opioid dependency
   ●    Ongoing acute alcohol, opioid, or benzodiazepine withdrawal treatment
   ●    A history of bipolar disorder
   ●    Received monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) treatment within the last 14 days
   ●    Severe liver failure
   ●    End-stage kidney failure

There is limited data on how Mysimba affects pregnant women or their unborn babies. Therefore, you should not take Mysimba weight loss tablets if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, as it’s possible that the medication may harm the foetus

The active ingredients in Mysimba are also excreted into breast milk; however, doctors don’t know how exposure to naltrexone and bupropion may affect infants. For this reason, women who are breastfeeding should not take Mysimba.

Doctors recommend that people taking Mysimba avoid drinking alcohol, as this can make the side effects of naltrexone and bupropion worse. You should tell your doctor if you drink a lot, but plan to stop suddenly, as doing so on Mysimba can increase your risk of seizures.

If you have any questions about safe alcohol consumption during Mysimba treatment, seek the advice of a licensed clinician.

You should not drive or operate machinery while taking Mysimba weight loss pills until you know how the medication affects you. This is because naltrexone and bupropion can cause drowsiness and dizziness and, more rarely, loss of consciousness or seizures.

If you experience side effects that affect your ability to drive safely or perform other high-risk tasks, you should avoid these activities while taking Mysimba. Discuss any side effects that hinder your daily routine with a healthcare professional, so they can advise you on how best to proceed.

Store Mysimba tablets at room temperature (around 25°C). Do not store above 30°C. Ensure the pills are kept in their original packaging and out of the reach of children or animals. Make a note of the expiry date and do not use the medication after this point.

Yes, you can switch to Mysimba tablets from other weight loss medications, such as tablets or injections. This should be done after consulting with a licensed clinician, who will determine whether Mysimba is suitable for your circumstances. You’ll likely need to start at the lowest Mysimba dose to help your body manage potential side effects.
